Highlights from Holland: Rijks Museum

This is the place to go if ever in Amsterdam! A beautiful, recently renovated museum, crammed with more than you could possibly see in one day and showcasing some of the most famous and brilliant pieces of artwork in the world.


Taking Cathy’s advice, I went first to the Hall of Honour, which runs down the center of the second floor. Along both sides are alcoves of some of Holland’s most famous and world-renowned artists. This hallway alone took me a considerable amount of time to get through. There was so much to see and so much interesting information provided by the museum to accompany it. I especially liked the supplementary cards for certain pieces of art that pointed out portions of the painting that you might have overlooked on your own. They also aided in explaining the symbolism of some pieces whose original political meaning is now lost on…
